Juju Papers Partners with Illustrator Carson Ellis on Artisanal Wallpapers

Lush Dumbo Apartment Accented by Juju Papers Featured in Architectural Digest

AD_Image 'When the design duo* first saw the home, the front hall felt cramped and undefined. They resolved to cover both the wall and doors in Juju Paper’s artful Pas de Trois, which gave the neglected pass-through the illusion of depth, plus the gravitas of a larger room. “We love using wallpaper—it’s one of those classic materials that always elevates a space, taking it to the next level of texture and depth,” says Aventajado'. We at Juju Papers couldn't be more thrilled to be featured on Architectural Digest as part of this creative New York family home remodel headed by Current Interior designers Xandro Aventajado and Rachel Kane. Bypassing the traditional route of minimalism in favor of 'lush layers, tonal textures, and bold prints' Xandro and Rachel used wallpaper in unique ways including covering doors - an idea we really love! Don't just take our word for it, check out these amazing photos ...

InteriorDesign_CoverInteriorDesign First up, we were overjoyed to see Interior Design feature Juju Papers' Big Moon in a gorgeous full-page spread. Describing Juju Papers as having both 'urban cool' and 'glam' qualities, they went on to describe the Big Moon pattern as '... calligraphic, almost hieroglyphic ...' highlighting the artful and meditative quality of our wave pattern. Thank you for the love, Interior Design - it's mutual!

Putting the Pow! into Powder Rooms

Juju_Papers_Katie_SeamanPhoto via Katie Seaman showing a detail of her dressed to impress powder room in Juju Papers Sisters of the Sun in gold on navy.

We've noticed a recent trend among some of our favorite interior designers and stylists - namely, adding the pow! to powder rooms with Juju Papers. We can't think of a better way to make a fashionable and lasting impression in spaces that, in all reality, tend to be small and utilitarian. To celebrate those who went that extra step to break the mold and up the wow factor by adding some uniquely elegant color and pattern via Juju Papers, we're highlighting some of our favorite powder rooms with POW! Juju_Papers_Space_Design_1 Martie Kilmer of Space Design lightened and brightened her powder room using Juju Papers A View of the Woods in white and mink on cream. Why we love it: Martie's modern powder room feels bright and open despite it's small size. By using A View of the Woods in a light palette Martie amped up the wow factor by adding pattern that doesn't overwhelm the space. Juju_Papers_Bannister_Homes_2Juju_Papers_Bannister_Homes_1 Bannister Custom Homes used Juju Papers Sisters of the Sun in gold on charcoal to add dazzle to their space. Why we love it: A little drama goes a long way and we love that Bannister Custom Homes wasn't afraid to go the extra mile in their striking space. To counter the cold feeling that comes with a powder room's hard fixtures, Sisters of the Sun lives up to it's name by adding warmth along with visual interest that holds it's own without overshadowing with those gorgeous fixtures. JuJu_Papers_Kaminsky_Pew_1 Speaking of drama, Alexis Pew of Kaminski + Pew did not hold back in making this powder room one to remember. Why we love it: With lots of natural light offered by the skylight and white ceiling, Juju Papers Sisters of the Sun in gunmetal on charcoal really amps up the richness of the space and creates a beautiful backdrop that allows those chic mod fixtures to really pop. This is a powder room made for selfies!

What do you think? Have you added Juju Papers to your powder room? Send us pics, we'd love to see!

Now that you're inspired, shop Juju Papers and add some POW to your next project.

Juju DIY Ideas for Leftover Wallpaper

Ever wondered what to do with your left over Juju Papers? Or perhaps you're a renter and your landlord isn't down with your papering a room but you just have to have some Juju in your space? Well we've got some ideas for using your excess paper to add a fun + graphic pop to your space. We love this DIY tutorial from the inspiring  Deuce Cities Henhouse blog which takes you step-by-step through papering dresser drawers.

They used our Sisters of the Sun paper for this fun project

Other ideas include:
  • Papering the back of a bookcase. Remove the shelves, lay the book case flat, paper the back, and re-insert the shelves after the paper dries.
  • Paper the interiors of your drawers. You can use the same directions from Deuce Cities but paper the interior of the drawers instead of the sides. This is especially great for antique drawers that might be in rough shape - after all, you don't want to snag your sweaters!
  • Paper the interior panel of a closet door for a spot of cheer when picking out your clothes for the day.
  • Use paper to cover the matting in a framed picture. I've done this one, it's easy and adds a great graphic punch to your picture. Use the same paper in multiple frames to add cohesion to your pics or use a few different papers to really make your pictures pop!

Juju Papers in Sunset Magazine or: Why We Love Orlando Soria

Juju_Papers_Big_Moon_in_Sunset_Magazine_1 We're absolutely over the moon for this Home Polish x Sunset Magazine showcase house project by interior designer and Home Polish creative director, Orlando Soria. Featuring Juju Papers' Big Moon (see what we did there?) in gold on cream, we love how the pattern adds delightful pizzazz while setting off the cool contemporary art, statement stools and textured rug without overpowering the room. We love Orlando and are so honored he included Juju Papers in this wonderful project.

From Sunset:

Pick a Showstopper: Because the den is visible from every part of the cottage, Soria played it up as a focal point, with the daring  gold-and-white wallpaper from Juju Papers. "Having that loud pattern helps you see how bright the rest of the space is," he says.

Wallpaper on the Ceiling? Yes! Juju Papers on This Old House

Juju Papers was a part of Jeremy and Jody Kieval's vision for their Colonial home transformation in Lexington, Massachusetts, which was featured on the current season of This Old House. The remodel included an 800 sq/ft addition over the garage, which created space for two additional bedrooms, including this young girls' bedroom below.

"The bedrooms were designed to reflect the girls' personalities. Here, a polka-dot (Juju Papers) wall covering on the ceiling, a swinging chair, a piano rug, and whimsical wall decals suit a lively and music-loving young girl."

Wallpaper on the ceiling is a new trend that we have noticed, and the Sisters of the Sun pattern (shown here) is perfect for this application.

Oh Joy/Lessons Learned From My Favorite Makers/Includes Juju Papers

It's hard to imagine someone like Joy Cho taking advice from the likes of me. ; ) However, she contacted me recently and said that she wanted to ask some of her favorite designers about some of the lessons that they have learned as a small business owners over the years. I had plenty to share, as my lessons have been many. However, one of the most important lessons that I have learned as an artist, a designer, and in business is that making things happen in business and in art/design in a meaningful way is hard. It's not easy for anyone, if even they make it look easy. “The saying, 'the darkest hour is just before dawn' is often the case in my creative and professional life. There's always a slog in everything worth doing. POWER THROUGH THE SLOG!" Every time you are pursuing something that is important to you, you usually have to pass through a window that is really difficult and filled with self-doubt, and everything seems impossible, unachievable, and ugly. But here's the thing - everyone is going through this, all of the time. It's important to be the type of person who recognizes this and just lets it pass over them, instead of thinking that they aren't cut out for the work that they are doing. It sounds cliche', but it's true! Either way, it feels great to be acknowledged by Oh Joy! as one of her favorite makers. Also included in this lineup were Coral & Stone, Walnut Animal Society, and Kindah Khalidy. They also had advice to share in the post you can read here.  I would also like to add that Joy said that she selected us because we were, "a few of my favorite makers right now whose work I personally love wearing or having in my home." I can say that it is true - that Joy is an actual, real customer who does seem to love and appreciate our work here at Juju. Thanks, Joy! You are a gem. Genevieve Gorder and Grace Bonny Talk About Juju Papers on After The Jump

Genevieve Gorder said some of the nicest things about Juju that you could ever imagine someone saying about your company in an interview on Grace Bonney's excellent podcast, After the Jump, which you can stream through Heritage Radio Network on download on iTunes. This was originally aired in October 2014. If you don't have the time to listen through the whole interview, the part where Gen and Grace talk about Juju is at the end. At the end of the interview, Grace asked Gen some sweeping questions. Here is a summation - warning, gratuitous bragging alert! GB "Who do you hope really makes it big this year that you're really behind? What do you really love?" GG: "Hmmmm. . . Juju Papers!" GB: "Avery is awesome!" ( I warned you. Gratuitous.) GG: "Juju makes these incredible wallpapers, which I littered in my home, any wall that I could, I had her patterns."  "She really embraces pause, negative space", and she does it so effortlessly . . . I'm obsessed!" I can't think of two women who I would rather have in my corner - inspirational, intelligent, insightful. Shredders. Thanks, ladies! Metropolis Magazine calls Juju Papers one of "Six American Design Entrepreneurs You Should Know"

We were flattered to be included among this "fresh crop (of) local talent" in Metropolis' October 2014 print edition titled "NEW TALENT".  From the article: "Gone are the days when designers struggled to find producers to manufacture their wares. Relying on solid hands-on skills and the e-commerce market, a young design studio can now strike out on its own. These six American entrepreneurs have done just that, offering handcrafted products and custom services to designers and consumers all over the country. Think of them as your local, go-to design talent." Also included in this rock-steady crew were my old pals Graypants from Seattle, Brooklyn's Workstead, Detroit's Color & Mirror, Minneapolis' Hennepin Made, and Minden, Nevada's WFour Design. Thanks to Metropolis for including us! MetropolisArticleJuju

CNN's Jake Tapper, Bon Appetit, and Juju Papers. Strange bedfellows.

If you know me personally, then you know that I am a hardcore BA (Bon Appetit) fan. My buddies Jacob, Brian, and I all document and text back and forth our BA recipe successes and failures. It's one of our dreams to grace the pages of BA someday, possibly in one of those four page spreads where beautiful people eat farm to table at sunset in the country. We pretty much look and act . . . like that . . . pretty much . . . But seriously, folks. I got close to BA fame yesterday in this funny BA interview with CNN's Jake Tapper and family. That's Juju Papers' After Chinterwink in Silver and Charcoal on Cream in the background, in a stunning dining room designed by Residents Understood in Washington, DC. Gotta love it.
