You know that story, The Pearl. I went to this place called Bucerias in Mexico. Place of divers is the rough translation, because the place was long ago known for its oyster divers, who dove deep and held their breath in the old-fashioned way. I read The Pearl as a kid and only remembered that part about the book, the holding your breath. That's what I thought about the whole time I was in Bucerias, those divers holding their breath, like in The Pearl.
They have beautiful stonework there, which is what inspired this pattern. The layout of a stone mason's wall in Bucerias. I wish I could find out who made it, but I don’t see that happening. Funny how that could happen to you or me, too. Someone we don't know could be treasuring some thing that we made at some point and don't even think about anymore. They could be looking at it right now, loving it even. Is that possible? Sure, I guess it's possible. But don’t hold your breath.
