Swiss Cheese - Deli Yellow - Cement Square Tile

There is nothing subtle about these fromage-inspired tiles. Aptly named after the cheese characterized by its holey texture, Swiss Cheese is a playful nod to surrealism. Featuring a fantastical pattern that emulates a slice of Swiss cheese, the motif is a mixture of fact and fiction. Made by hand using the no-fire method, the encaustic tiles are molded with black and grey inlay and then backfilled with yellow, forming a fantastical composition of dark holes on a mustard-colored foreground. The composition of whimsy shapes creates a contrast with the muted colors. And, unlike the Swiss dairy product, the tiles are not shiny (or, in tile speak: “glossy”). Instead, they are unglazed (and, therefore, matte).
