FOR THE LOVE OF CHEESE

Meet Swiss Cheese, our latest fromage-inspired tile

This might sound cheesy, but we think this new tile is really “grate.”

There is nothing subtle about these fromage-inspired tiles. Aptly named after the cheese characterized by its holey texture, Swiss Cheese is a playful nod to surrealism. Featuring a fantastical pattern that emulates a slice of Swiss cheese, the motif is a mixture of fact and fiction.

THE BIG CHEESE:

An interview with our founder

Our founder, Avery Thatcher, has two favorite cheeses. Hint: Swiss isn’t one of them. (While the mild aroma pairs nicely with several foods, the shape is more inspiring than its taste.) Instead, she prefers super soft, tangy cheeses of French origin. Specifically, she favors the rich, robust composition of Fleur d'Aunis and Délice de Bourgogne.

We chatted with Avery about the new collection and the inspiration behind it:

Q: Why cheese?

A: love to eat.

My favorite show as a kid was “Wok with Yan.” By cooking with a sense of humor, he married food and comedy.

What was the inspiration? Why Swiss, in particular?

Swiss Cheese started as a comical idea, but I realized it could have many fun, punny applications in the interiors of hotels or restaurants. I like the idea of high and low as an upscale, “wink wink” surface for foodies.

What’s unique about it?

After 12 years in the design industry, I can occasionally take more risks and express my farcical side. Those who know me know my work is usually more serious than I take myself.
